Se realizó un estudio anátomo-histológico comparativo de la estructura y los elementos foliares de Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil. (Aquifoliaceae), "yerba mate", y de su adulterante Mangifera indica L. (Anacardiaceae), "mango". Del análisis efectuado se concluye que ciertos caracteres tales como la tipología de las células epidérmicas y estomas, la presencia o ausencia de relieves cuticulares, la presencia de tricomas glandulares y la morfología de los cristales permiten la identificación y distinción de ambas especies, incluso en estado fragmentario.A comparative anatomical and histofoliar study of Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil.
